Shared Rakeback

There are several types of online poker Rakeback deals on the market today. In this article, we will define Shared Rakeback, describing how it works and how to calculate Shared Rakeback.

Examples of Shared Rakeback: Cake Poker, Players Only

Shared Rakeback is a very popular online poker rakeback program that pays rakeback evenly among all participating players. By participating, we mean players that have contributed at least one chip to the pot. The amount a player contributes has no effect on how much they will receive in Rakeback. That is determined by the size of the rake, and how many players participate in the pot.

At a table of 9, if 4 players participate, the total rake is divided by 4. Then, from that sum, the Rakeback percentage is taken and paid back into the bankroll of players with a Shared Rakeback deal.

To better explain how Shared Rakeback works, and how to calculate Shared Rakeback, we'll use an example hand.

Let's say you are playing $2/$4 NL Hold'em at a table with 6 players. You are in the Small Blind position, forced to post a $2 bet. The Big Blind posts $4. The next 3 players Fold, and the Dealer Button Raises the BB to $9 you fold, and the BB Calls.

The pot now totals $20. As the hand goes on, the pot reaches $60 before a winner emerges. Three players participated. You contributed $2 to the pot, and are eligible to receive Shared Rakeback.

Now to calculate your Rakeback earnings...

The industry standard poker rake is 5% of the pot, capped at $3.

5% of a $60 pot is $3 (60 x 0.05 = 3)

Since 3 players participated, we divide the $3 raked by 3 players.

$3 / 3 = $1

The average Shared Rakeback deal is 30%, so you will be receiving 30% of the $1 Shared Rake.

$1 x 0.3 = $0.30

You would earn $0.30 in shared Rakeback for this hand.

Who Needs Shared Rakeback?

Generally speaking, Shared Rakeback is best for Loose/Passive poker players. Loose players will generally move on to see the Flop, while Passive players are very conservative with their chips. Like the example above, betting the minimal amount ensures you will earn Rakeback so long as the hand is raked.
